9/24/2023 0 Comments What video codec to use premiereI primarily export to h264 for online delivery but almost as often I use a DNxHD codec (noticed that the DNx is faster despite much bigger file size. When the media+renders=output codec, "Smart Rendering" means just do a copy. I know that in some cases Adobe can use these for Smart Rendering a lot. This is partially a limitation of CPU/GPU it's 4k and you're using h264, which is terrible for performance. My computer is fine for compressed 4K from like GH4/Sony Mirrorless, but slows a bit once I start using Lumetri or scopes or warp stabilization or other effects, etc. Changing this to a post codec (DNx, ProRes or Cineform) means you can use the previews. ![]() ![]() The default codec is so-so Premiere doesn't use the Previews. ![]() Is this something I should even be changing? Is there any benefit to changing this?
